| Otto Rogge was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1948.
Already at school he formed a close bond with
photography. His interest in Nature and especially
insects and small animals developed his well-known
close-up style. In 1965 the private school A.L.Merz
published Otto's first book on insect lino-cuts. Otto was
then trained at Kodak in Stuttgart to become a colourfilm
technician. In 1971 he migrated to Australia and
continued to work with Kodak as training officer and
later as supervisor in computer services. Otto made a big decision in 1980 when he enrolled fulltime in
photography at RMIT Melbourne, and obtained his Bachelor
of Art in Photography in 1983. Since then Otto has worked
as a freelance photographer, lectured at RMIT and CAE,
has had several exhibitions and won many awards locally
and internationally. He has traveled Australia widely
and has taken part in study-trips to Japan, China,
America and Europe. With an extensive collection, his
photographs are now sold world-wide by stock agencies. In
1992 The Stock Market won an award for the most read advertisement in New York, featuring Otto's computer image
"Kangaroos jumping over Ayres Rock". Also in
1992, Otto featured with two other photographers in a
book called "Landforms" published by Wall
Street Exchange which was reprinted in 1995.
Now Otto has
widened his photographic skills with electronic image
processing, the next generation of photography. In 1996
he was invited as a guest lecturer at the APS Convention
held in Hobart where he presented his papers on digital
imaging. He has published many articles on this topic.
