KIRLIAN PHOTOGRAPHS

OTTO ROGGE

The process of Kirlian photographs was discovered accidentally by the Soviet electrician Semyon Kirlian who observed tiny flashes of light between the electrodes and the skin of a person undergoing electrotherapy. After refining the process Kirlian claimed that his corona photographs produced information relating to the energy in living things.

Kirlian photographs are unusually striking due to their radiating beams of colour. The variation of colour depends  on the type of film, the intensity of discharge, and whether it was exposed by contact or optically through a conductive glass plate. The process seems not all that safe and there are risks in burning and electric shock.

All Kirlian photographs on display are produced by the contact method using either colour negative or transparency film. It works both with living and metal objects.  Please enjoy!
